I began working with parents during the divorce process because of my work with children and adolescents. I found that the children's success in any divorce is intimately tied to how well the parents work together. Feelings created during a divorce including anger and grief can be resolved if everyone commits to honest discussion. My job as coach or child specialist was to help these discussion move forward to creative solutions while keeping the kids' needs at the center of the process. I have loved helping families work together and will miss seeing that progress. I encourage everyone to use the collaborative process if possible.
I brought to this process my 30 plus years of professional experience with working with families, my sense of humor which sometimes helps put a new perspective on difficult discussions and my commitment to creative solutions which meet the needs of the adults while still keeping the children's needs primary. As a coach, I was direct in offering feedback and when children are involved, protective of their needs throughout the process. It has been an honor and privilege to help families through this collaborative process. I am willing to support others who are continuing this work by listening/offering fresh perspectives, even though I will no longer provide direct services.
