Family therapy was my first interest and I am a clinical member and approved supervisor of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. Since 1990 I have worked with families who have been experiencing divorce and currently over half my practice is devoted to families struggling with separation and divorce using collaborative practice, mediation, parent coordination as well as family and individual therapy. I have also received extensive training in couples therapy with the Gottman Institute and the Center for Emotion Focused Therapy. I believe in working with couples and families it is important to have strong clinical skills and to keep up with the current research. I have been involved in the Collaborative Community for five years and it has been a wonderful addition to my work with my families. I founded the Northern Virginia Family Reflecting time, which has used narrative therapy with families for 21 years. Narrative therapy is a natural part of working in the collaborative process and working as a team has been always been an important part of my work. In addition to my clinical work as a collaborative professional, I have also been the co-chair of my local practice group-the Collaborative Professionals of Northern Virginia, and I am currently the chair of the Virginia Association of Collaborative Professionals. I recently joined the board of the DC Academy of Collaborative Professionals as a member at large. I am also a founding member of the Collaborative Professionals Training Institute -CPTI that offer basic and advanced team trainings in the collaborative process.
I have worked with many attorneys, mental health professionals and financial neutral throughout the in DC and Virginia. I work as a divorce coach, child specialist, and a mental health neutral in mediation work with divorcing families. I particularly find the collaborative process conducive to families who want their children's voice heard along with the interests of both parties. Children do much better during this difficult time if they are helped to process this change in family structure in a positive way. The creativity and flexibility of the collaborative process allows a family to develop outcomes that are unique to their own family.
